Stay Fit As You Age

We at Las Vegas ObGyn Center know that preparing for getting older age is not just the responsibility of the elderly, as muscle loss due to age begins to set in after 35 and only worsens over time. Don’t get depressed, there are things you can do to mitigate these changes. In an article published in the Harvard Health Publications, Harvard Women’s Health Watch, July 2017, we learn that “only 21% of women of women observe the Department of Health and Human Services’ recommendation to perform activities that work all the major muscle groups at least two days a week.” We know that women are busy, working, taking care of children and grandchildren, a household, husband or partner, community involvement, etc. Making time for “yourself” is often a challenge at every stage of a woman’s life but it is essential for your health, well-being and frankly, your sanity.

Strengthening exercises can stave off the most detrimental aspects of aging and promote other physical functions such as balance, cholesterol levels, and mobility. This also helps to sustain a sense of well-being and emotional stability, which often suffer as one’s physical capacity diminishes. Additionally, taking steps in advance can help lessen the effects of conditions or injuries developed later in life, including pain from arthritis, muscle wear, heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis. We don’t have to decline in our ability to enjoy an active physical life; we just need to keep moving and focus on our physical wellness.

While the aging process affects everyone differently, there are proven steps you can take to prevent a decline in physical and mental health:
